ANODISING

Anodising is an oxidisation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts.

The process is called anodising because the part to be treated forms the anode electrode of an electrical circuit. Anodising increases corrosion resistance and wear resistance and provides better adhesion for paint primers and glues than bare metal. Anodic films can also be used for a number of cosmetic effects, either with thick, porous coatings that can absorb dyes or with thin transparent coatings that add interference effects to reflected light.

AT STAINLESS PLATING, WE OFFER TWO TYPES OF ANODISING:

Chromic Anodising

Sulphuric Anodising

WE ALSO OFFER A RANGE OF SURFACE CONDITIONING OPTIONS INCLUDING:

Pre-treatment/Etching

to reduce surface scratches

Satin Finish

achieved through increased etching

Masking

available to specific customer requirements

SULPHURIC ANODISE

Sulphuric anodising is an oxidisation treatment for aluminium that produces a coating of aluminium oxide. This coating presents excellent corrosion resistance and can be dyed in multiple different colours. The coating is available from around 5 to 25 microns in thickness. Clear coatings are typically 5 to 15 microns.

At SPL Treatments, we offer the following different sulphuric acid anodising processes:
SULPHURIC ANODISE (COLOUR DYED)

Anodic oxidation is very widely used for the treatment of aluminium and aluminium alloys. Anodising provides an attractive decorative and protective finish for a wide variety of aluminium components. In the anodising process a thin invisible film of aluminium oxide forms naturally on the surface and provides corrosion protection for the underlying aluminium. Depending upon the initial surface condition and alloy composition, a bright, semi-bright or matt effect will be obtained. This is known as clear, natural, or silver anodising. This anodic film may also be dyed to give a wide range of attractive colour finishes, e.g. Gold, Red, Blue, Green or Black and many more. Because the various dyes are absorbed into the pore structure, the sealed, coloured anodised aluminium is extremely resistant to wear and fading in the sunlight. Dyed coatings are typically 10 to 25 microns.

Stainless Plating can offer a variety of colours with the following dyes:

Others available upon request.

CHROMIC ANODISING

We offer Chromic Anodising to Aerospace & Military specifications. Chromic Acid Anodising is the chosen finish for primer painting as it has excellent adhesion properties. We can process Chromic Anodising up to 3 metres in length. Typical thickness of 3 to 5 microns can be achieved.

At SPL Treatments, we offer the following different chromic anodise finishes:
