Conversion coatings are coatings for metals where the part surface is converted into the coating with a chemical or electro-chemical process. Examples include chromate conversion coatings. They are used for corrosion protection, increased surface hardness, to add decorative colour and as paint primers.
Alocrom 1200
Alocrom is a chromate conversion coating chemically applied to aluminium to provide excellent corrosion protection. Alocrom 1200 is commonly specified as a pre-treatment prior to painting or powder coating, particularly where enhanced corrosion resistance and/or maintained electrical conductivity are required.
Suitable for all types of aluminium and aluminium alloys – including high-silicon pressure die-castings – Alocrom delivers reliable performance across a wide range of applications. It is recommended wherever maximum corrosion resistance is essential and is appropriate for components that will be painted as well as those intended to remain unpainted.
For localized repair or remedial work, Alocrom can also be applied as a touch-up treatment in the form of Brush Alocrom.
Alocrom 1000 (Alodine)
Alocrom 1000 produces protective coatings on aluminium and its alloys without significantly changing the appearance of the aluminium surface. It is recommended where a very low surface electrical resistance is required, or the aluminium is to be subsequently lacquered and so the surface must be uniformly metallic. Paint adhesion to this coating is excellent, and the electrical resistance is lower than either Alocrom 1200 coatings or untreated alloy.

SurTec 650
SurTec 650 is a trivalent chrome conversion coating for aluminium. Surtec 650 provides high level corrosion resistant finishes for many aluminium alloys and a base for paints, high performance topcoats and powder coatings.
